Quality Matters
Understandably, those outside the professional piercing industry don't typically know what to look for when deciding where to go to get their first/next piercing(s) – and sadly, an unacceptably high number of studios and businesses prey on this unawareness to cut corners by performing poor piercings and using improper and low-quality jewelry that will very likely result in problems ranging from stubborn to severe. At Underground, we provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions about your piercings and piercing health.
All of our jewelry is made from implant-grade Titanium (the same material that replacement hips and pins/screws for surgical reconstruction are made of) and is completely body safe. It has a chromium oxide layer that serves as a barrier between your skin and the jewelry to prevent exposure to nickel alloys that are a common allergen for many people with metal sensitivities and found in low-quality jewelry. Our jewelry is mirror polished so skin does not heal to it and eliminates the need for having to twist and rotate your jewelry during healing which causes unnecessary irritation, increases chances of developing an infection, and makes healing take far longer than it needs to.
We employ a primarily threadless jewelry system for easier changing, stronger end connections (so your jewelry is less likely to come apart), and allows for a wider variety of compatible high-quality options when upgrading to different pieces in the future. All of our threaded jewelry is internally threaded so that it passes smoothly through your skin and avoids the damage and bacteria transfer that externally threaded jewelry causes.
Jewelry made from Stainless Steel, “Surgical” Steel (buzzwords sound legit, but really mean nothing), Sterling Silver, and Acrylic are NOT body-safe and should be avoided – especially in new piercings. These types of jewelry can cause reactions ranging from allergic reactions to nickel content to permanent skin staining (localized argyria) and more.
