Please reach us at undergroundtattoostation@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question below.
Yes, our minimum piercing age is 6 years old, and there are several reasons for this: first and foremost, the minor being pierced has to be able to communicate to the piercer that they want the piercing(s). They need to be able to understand the aftercare guidelines provided by the piercer, and they have to be able to sit still long enough for the piercer to perform the piercings. We've found that 6 years old tends to be the age this can be expected.
Please understand that when in our studio, your child has the final say as to what happens during the appointment. If at any point they communicate that they no longer want to be pierced, the appointment is concluded. If they are unable or unwilling to cooperate with the piercer’s instructions during their appointment, this can pose a danger to both the piercer and the piercee, and therefore our piercer reserves the right to end the appointment. This is not an inconvenience to us at all; we want your child’s piercings to be an exciting and positive experience, so if waiting a little bit longer is necessary, it’s absolutely okay! We’ll be ready when they are!
While our piercer is happy to change a healed piercing with a piece of jewelry you already own, all initial piercings must be performed using body-safe, implant-grade Titanium (or gold) jewelry of the proper size and style to facilitate proper healing. We have many different and affordable options in stock to start your piercing with.
Due to the limited space of and multitude of potential hazards present within the piercing room, children are required to remain in the waiting area under the supervision of an adult caretaker during your visit. Children/infants may not be left unattended in the waiting area under any circumstance.
Typically, we allow one guest to be present in the room with you during your appointment, however, our piercer reserves the right to dismiss anyone from the piercing room at any time if they become disruptive or disrespectful.
Your piercer will provide you with oral instructions on how to care for your piercing at the conclusion of your appointment and will be happy to answer any and all questions you have at that time. You are additionally provided with detailed written aftercare instructions to take home with you that specifies the piercing(s) performed, the date of your appointment, the type and size of the jewelry used, your anticipated healing time, a reminder about when it should be appropriate to downsize your jewelry (if necessary), as well as the piercer’s contact information should you have additional questions at a later time.
The answer for this varies according to the type of piercing you received, how many piercings you are healing simultaneously, and the current condition of the piercing. Piercings that are experiencing irritation or are otherwise being troublesome will, of course, require you to hold off on any unnecessary changes until they calm down. Ideally, we would like you to wait until you have completely healed your piercing before changing it (especially for any jewelry selections of dubious quality). If you require a jewelry change during your healing process, please have our piercer assist you to perform a quick piercing health check, ensure you are using body-safe jewelry and to limit any trauma caused by removing and inserting a new piece.
Again, this will vary depending on the piercing performed, the current status of your piercing’s health, and how many piercings (or tattoos) you are healing simultaneously. The time frame provided on your aftercare paperwork is an industry-determined standard for piercings of that type and under the expectation that proper aftercare guidelines are followed and irritation/unforeseen piercing trauma is kept to a minimum. Because the variables differ so wildly, we cannot say with any certainty when you should expect your piercing to be fully healed, but you are welcome to stop in for an in-studio consultation with our piercer at any time for him to inspect your piercing health and determine your healing status.
Unfortunately, we will not perform any piercing if numbing cream has been applied to the area beforehand. Numbing cream causes your skin texture to tighten and become “rubbery” which hinders the piercer’s ability to perform his work accurately. Even if the piercing is done perfectly straight in the studio, once the effects of the cream wear off, you may likely find it becomes crooked resulting in you being unsatisfied with the results. We don’t want that for you, and you don’t want that for yourself. Any discomfort felt during a properly performed piercing is brief and very likely never as severe as you’re expecting, so numbing cream is not necessary.
First and foremost, be sure you are adhering to the specific aftercare guidelines provided to you by our piercer. Do NOT attempt to change your jewelry at any point during your healing as you risk irritation and/or infection which could prolong your healing process, result in scarring, or necessitate abandoning the piercing entirely. You are welcome and encouraged to come in for a piercing health consultation at any time regarding concerns.
If you are unable to re-insert the jewelry yourself (or have lost it entirely), please come into the studio as quickly as you’re able to for assistance. If you are able to reinsert your jewelry, make sure you do a thorough cleaning as soon as you are able to.
Under no circumstances do we “recycle” jewelry for use on our clientele. Please take the appropriate time to select a piece of jewelry you will be happy with for the duration of your healing. In the rare event that a piece of jewelry does need to be changed while you are healing, you will be required to purchase a new piece.
All jewelry sales are final. If you are unsure about the type, size and/or compatibility of the jewelry you are purchasing, allow our piercer to size and install it for you before you leave the studio.
Please be aware that multiple piercings will extend the healing time for each piercing you get and - depending on the piercing - some take much longer to heal than others. Your piercer will advise you according to your individual needs as they relate to your lifestyle, work environment, history healing previous piercings, existing medical conditions you wish to provide and so on. As your health and well-being is our primary concern, our piercer will only perform as many piercings as he deems safe and responsible considering this information.
Clients will be refused service if obvious signs of intoxication or impairment are detected, are being disruptive or disrespectful to staff or other clientele, are a minor without the proper documentation or parent/caretaker present, or do not have proper supervision for an accompanying infant/child/children during their appointment.
Photos are typically acceptable with prior permission of the piercer. Videos, streaming, and Face Time are not permitted in the piercing rooms for any reason.
As professionals who genuinely care about our clientele AND take pride in the quality of our work, we want you to be happy with our services. If you are dissatisfied with your piercing (whether it be one we performed or not), let us know right away and our piercer will be happy to discuss options with you.
More than likely, your new piercing is simply irritated and can be quickly and easily evaluated in a consultation with your piercer to help you find the quickest way to get your healing back on track. Please stop into the studio as soon as you can.
